- Where should we park when dropping off children?
Parking is an on-going issue at Vic West Elementary. Please be respectful of neighbours and designated disabled parking spaces. Parking in the drop-off zone is for quick drop-offs; along Front st. longer parking time is available. - Who do I ask when I have questions about classroom activities, school events, such as spirit days, or field trips?
You should talk to or email your child’s teacher. - Do I get to choose my teacher or who my children have as peers in their class?
No, unfortunately you cannot choose your child’s teacher. But requests can be made for other children to be included in your child’s class. Email the principal with your request. - My child has lost their jacket/water bottle/gloves, where is the lost and found?
The lost in found is either in the main hall, front door, or by the gym. We encourage you to label everything. - I want to volunteer to drive on a field trip, what do I need to do/know?
There is extensive information on the Volunteer’s Drivers page on the Vic West Elementary website. - What is the (digital) Scholastic flyer?
Some teachers distribute scholastic flyers to students with a specific-classroom code. The proceeds from books purchased through scholastic using a teacher code benefit the teacher and their ability to buy more books for the classroom. - What’s the book fair?
Associated with Scholastic, our book fairs happen on teacher and student-lead conference days. Part of the proceeds from the purchases from book fairs go support the Vic West Elementary library. - What’s this 100 days thing?
After 100 days of learning the school celebrates literacy and numeracy through a number of school and classroom-lead activities. - What are student-led conferences?
These conferences are often in-lieu of parent-teacher interviews. They are an opportunity for your child to showcase their learning in the classroom through structured activities. Students lead all stages of the conferences and conversations to show what they have learned. - Wait, there’s a back field?
Yes, the back field is where older children (Grades 2 and up) typically play during recess and lunch hour. It has a nature playground and lots of field space. - Can I come to an assembly?
Yes, parents are welcome to attend school assemblies. - How often does the PAC hold events?
Every term we plan fundraisers and community-engagement events for the school. Some of our past events have been: Winter market, Games night, Walk-a-thons, Terry Fox Runs, Dances, Bottle drives, pancake breakfasts, and more. Want to get involved? Email the vicwestpac@gmail.com
