\nItem 1: Introductions<\/b><\/span>
\n\u2022 7 members present<\/span>

\n\u2022 Aaren nominated as Members at Large by Mercedes Calvert<\/span>

\nItem 3: Acceptance of the agenda<\/b><\/span>
\n\u2022 Mercedes will speak for the absent Vice\u2010Presidents, Debbie and Conan<\/span>
\n\u2022 Treasurer\u2019s Report will happen at the next meeting\u2010Carolyn and Tracey absent<\/span>
\nItem 4: Principal Report<\/span>
\n\u2022 The new Custodian will be notified of evening meetings to ensure the doors are unlocked<\/span>
\n\u2022 Extracurricular activities are beginning next week:<\/span>
\n\u2010 Knitting group<\/span>
\n\u2010 Soccer: There will be a Jamboree at View Royal, organized by Caleb Kennedy, Daryl <\/span>and Rachel Cooper<\/span>
\n\u2010 Choir: with Mrs. D<\/span>
\n\u2010 Cross country running: Amy Taggart will coordinate with Sir James Douglas at Topaz <\/span>Park<\/span>
\n\u2022 Jackie Kosh and the Leadership students will organize the Halloween fun in the gym (date TBD);<\/span>
\ncould use parent volunteers (email jkosh@sd61.bc.ca for more information)<\/span>
\n\u2022 On Wednesday, October 31st the students can wear their costumes to class<\/span>
\n\u2022 Parent Teacher conferences are happening on the 24th and 25th; it is important to remember <\/span>that the children\u2019s\u2019 performance is compared to the curriculum not their peers. Parents should <\/span>ask for concrete examples of ways that their child can improve so that they can help at home.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Mr. Cardle looked into replacing the basketball court\u2010will cost $20\u201030K. Possibility of making it a <\/span>joint project with the City of Victoria. However, Joe believes the lower playground is a more <\/span>urgent issue. In the meantime, Joe and Mercedes will see about having maintenance done so <\/span>that it is not such a tripping hazard and eye sore.<\/span>
\n\u2022 The school is conducting fire drills (duck & cover) as well as earthquake drills and then (later in <\/span>the year) Lock Down drills.<\/span>
\nAction items:<\/span>
\nOnce everything has been confirmed with the staff, Joe will send a notice to parents outlining <\/span>the school\u2019s emergency procedure.<\/span>
\nPAC needs to go through the emergency supplies and replace food and water. Joe to coordinate <\/span>this with PAC.<\/span>
\n
<\/span>
\nItem 5: Executive Reports<\/b><\/span>
\nVisioning Meeting\u2010 review (Mercedes and Coral)<\/span>
\n\u2022 6 PAC members walked around the school and noted areas that needed improvement <\/span>such as the murals, rain garden, basketball court and back playground.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Possible initiatives: a Labyrinth, organizing a movie night in the basketball court and possible <\/span>to put aside 10% of money brought in over the next 3 years to put towards playground. In <\/span>addition, the PAC would like to partner more with the community centre and bring areas of <\/span>concern to the attention of Joe Cardle and Facilities.<\/span>
\n\u2022 We brainstormed ideas for a PAC set of values as well as project ideas that support <\/span>these values.<\/span>
\nAction item:<\/span>
\nOnce we have another Visioning Meeting, and clarify our mandate, then the Executive will open <\/span>up the discussion to the broader school community (on the blog, fb, etc.) so that all of the <\/span>parents\u2019 opinions are considered.<\/span>
\n

\nItem 6: Business\/Action items arising from previous minutes<\/b><\/span>
\nBall wall painting and Sutton Group visitation (Jaime)<\/span>
\n\u2022 Hopes to paint the wall as soon as he has time.<\/span>
\nGrowth Plan sign off (Mercedes, Coral and Aaren)<\/span>
\nDone.<\/span>
\nPAC manual (Mercedes)<\/span>
\n\u2022 Happening<\/span>
\nEntertainment Books (Jaime)<\/span>
\n\u2022 There will be a notice going home with the students. We only need to sell 24 more books to <\/span>raise $1000 ($10\/book).<\/span>
\nFun Run review (Coral)<\/span>
\nA success! 26 children registered and had fun running for their school. Worth doing again next <\/span>year.<\/span>
\nRecycling (Coral and Aaren)<\/span>
\n\u2022 Bottle drives will occur on November 16, January 11, March 22 (may be changed depending on <\/span>Spring Break and holidays) and May 31st. We are trying to accumulate six bags so that Encorp <\/span>will pick up from the school.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Aaren and Heather have raised over $300 already this year by taking in scrap metal to Steel <\/span>Pacific. The Pioneer Co\u2010op donated all of their metal.<\/span>
\nAction items:<\/span>
\nCoral and Aaren will consider delivering flyers to the community notifying neighbors of an <\/span>upcoming Bottle Drive. People can then email the PAC to let us know if they need bottles <\/span>picked up.<\/span>
\nAaren will ask Kate at the community center to advertise that we are accepting scrap metal at <\/span>Steel Pacific to raise money.<\/span>

\nRefuse Program (Mercedes on behalf of Rachel)<\/span>
\n\u2022 Teachers need help educating students on the proper use of the recycling bins <\/span>(remembering to wash out their containers, etc.)<\/span>

\nItem 7: New business<\/b><\/span>
\nMovie Night (Mercedes)<\/span>
\n\u2022 Thursday, October 18th<\/span>
\n\u2022 Need to have a District Employee present (Joe and Jana unavailable)<\/span>
\nMovie Night Action items:<\/span>
\nJaime volunteered to attend (and bring his DVD player)<\/span>
\nMercedes will pick up the popcorn from Kernels<\/span>
\nCoral will buy the juice boxes (~50)<\/span>
\nScholastic Book Fair (Mercedes on behalf of Crystal and Brianna)<\/span>
\n\u2022 Running during Parent Teacher interviews<\/span>
\n\u2022 Brianna Perry and Crystal will organize this year<\/span>
\nAction item:<\/span>
\nCoral will post the volunteer signup sheet on facebook<\/span>
\nMagazine Subscriptions (Debbie)<\/span>
\n\u2022 Debbie will update us at the next meeting<\/span>
\nHalloween Event\u2010 teacher led? (Jana\/Joe)<\/span>
\n\u2022 Joe spoke on during Principal\u2019s Report<\/span>
\n\u2022 The Community Center offered us space to put on an activity during their Halloween Event on <\/span>October 28th (1:00\u20103:00 pm) for kids 9 years and under.<\/span>

\nCoral will organize and lead the event. Open to ideas!<\/span>
\nMercedes will talk to Shelley about preparing bookmarks to hand out to the kids from the <\/span>school.<\/span>
\nCommunication\/Branding (Mercedes)<\/span>
\n\u2022 Would like to have a \u201cPAC Corner\u201d in every newsletter<\/span>
\n\u2022 Also looking into a bulletin board outside or a letter board for the school to promote <\/span>communication with parents.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Making the most of facebook and the new PAC website to minimize printed handouts.<\/span>
\nVCPAC meetings \u2013 schedule and volunteer to attend meetings<\/span>
\n\u2022 Important for collaborating with other school and PACs as well as sharing fundraising ideas<\/span>
