About Mabel’s Labels!
“We are moms who were frustrated by the amount of stuff that left our houses, never to return. After lots of research and testing we created the perfect fun, durable labels for the stuff kids lose!
Our sticky labels and clothing labels, which are dishwasher, microwave and laundry safe, are not only practical, but also designed to be very special to each child. The labels are customized with a child’s name, favourite mix of colours and an icon (animal, symbol, etc.). We have also expanded our product line to include personalized stationery products, ID wristbands and household labels.
We strive to continuously design innovative labels for babies, kids and grown-ups alike. You’ll be amazed at what you can label!”
MS Walk fundraising success!
Thank you to all Victoria West Elementary students, staff and families who came together to raise $200 for the Multiple Sclerosis Walk on Sunday, April 14th. Every contribution mattered. An extra special thank you to Eden Forbes who donated $55 of her birthday money to her friend and classmate, Cole Rant, who was raising money and doing the walk for his grandmother, Barri Ann, who was a former student of Vic West and whose journey with MS sadly came to an end this past February.
And who’s that with the pink hair?! A big shout out to school principal, Mr. Cardle, who kept his word and dyed his hair a lovely shade of pink to celebrate reaching the fundraising goal. The promise was a great motivator for the students to get those loonies and toonies donated.

Monk Office School Supply Fundraiser
OFFICE SCHOOL SUPPLY FUNDRAISER
time! Save money! Raise funds for your child’s school!
Parents/Caregivers,
you the opportunity to get your school supplies for next year. They will be
hand delivered to the school in June. Imagine, when August rolls around,
instead of going all over town to get the right school supplies, you can just
open your box of pre-packaged supplies (that you picked up at the school at the
end of June) and send your child to school with them!
you look over the order form you received in your child’s backpack, (which is based on what grade your child will be in next
year), decide on what you want to purchase, and write a cheque for the supplies.
Cheques are to be made payable to Monk Office. Have your child hand in the form, with the cheque attached,
to their teacher by Friday, May 3rd.
include your phone number and email address on the order form so that we can
contact you when the supplies have arrived, which will be around June 18th.

Moksana Yoga donates yoga mats!
A BIG thank you to Moksana Yoga (#500- 3 Fan Tan Alley) for their donation of 9 gently used yoga mats. We now have a full class set of yoga mats, for teachers and students to use! The rolled mats are
stored in the gym equipment room in three easy-to-carry blue tubs.
Teachers, some of whom expressed an interest in acquiring yoga mats
earlier in the school year, will now be able to lead students through
poses using these suitable surfaces. Fabulous!
Proposed: VW PAC Mission Statement: for all parents/caregivers to review
On March 11th, the VW PAC worked together to create a vision/mission statement for the work we do. From this meeting (and a meeting held in October), we came up with the following Mission Statements and Values list. We value the input of all parents/caregivers at our school. If you would like to be involved in a discussion about this Mission Statement/Values list, please come to the PAC meeting on April 10th. Our goal is to vote on and adopt this Mission Statement, if there are no objections.

Thank you to Megson Fitzpatrick
Vic West PAC would like to thank Nick Mason and the staff at Megson Fitzpatrick
Insurance Services, for their very generous donation of $250 to our Earthquake supplies
fundraiser. With individual
earthquake kits now in place for each student, we will be purchasing supplies
to outfit our Emergency Preparedness kiosk, located outside on the school
grounds. The donation from Megson
Fitzpatrick will go towards buying much needed equipment such as tarps and
poles for shelter, a chemical toilet, and other tools that will be utilized,
should a serious earthquake, or other emergency, occur.
believe that our children’s safety is of the utmost importance, and Megson Fitzpatrick’s
support of our initiative has helped all students, staff, and families at our school to breath a
little easier.
community thanks you!

Vic West student in MS Walk
Grade one student, Cole Rant, will enter next month’s 2013 Scotiabank MS Walk with the memory of another Victoria West Elementary School student on his mind. Cole was never in the same class as Barri Ann Perry. They never had the same teacher, never shared a school computer or played together outside at recess. But they shared something that is somewhat uncommon among students of the same elementary school – Barri was Cole’s grandmother. Barri attended our school as a young girl from 1967 to 1974, from kindergarten through grade seven. She went on to have two young girls of her own and eventually become grandmother to young Cole. Known for her feisty personality and love of family and a good gossip, Barri lost her life last month at just 51 after a 13 year journey with Multiple Sclerosis.
On April 14th, Cole will put one foot in front of the other in memory of his grandmother. He’ll be joined by friends, family and other students of Vic West Elementary to raise money and awareness about MS. In the coming weeks, a loonie and toonie drive will be held to support Cole. In the meantime, you can support him by donating to his team – Barri’s Buds – at www.mswalks.ca.
If you would like to join Cole in his walk or have any questions, please contact his mom, Brianna, at 250 589-6634 or by e-mail at bananap@live.ca. For more information about the 2013 MS Walk, visit www.mswalks.ca.
The PAC wishes Cole great success with his MS Walk! You make us all proud!
